And we are off on our ride on Heal-a-thon!

Hey everyone!

The “Heal-a-thon” is our Earth Healers tour. We are spreading our love for people and planet and educating on holistic health and wellness, ecological health and tethering revenue streams to the preservation of our world’s natural places and the deep cultural traditions these places contain.

We will attend holistic living, health and green festivals, outdoor enthusiast events ranging from mountain bike races to triathalons, as well as to natural food stores, natural pharmacies, music festivals, parking lots—you name it! We have a cause and we are telling as many people about it as we can. Our goal is to help our family grow! Wherever there is a link to our cause of Health and Wellness for the Earth and her people, you just may find us! I am really looking forward to meeting open minded people interested in what we do, or even those of you who are involved in endeavors with a similar purpose.

Radiance Maca everywhere!!!

Maca is the miracle. I can’t believe how this one root, the partial inspiration for the company I finally brought to life with the help of my partners and the beginning of the real conservation efforts for the places I love, has taken on a force of its own.

In formulating our mission of bringing traditional healing to the world, we needed to choose with which herbals we would begin. Maca was one of the first choices of the healers—its versatile, it addresses a huge amount of varying needs, and it gives immediate gratification. Perfect ice breaker in terms of western needs. Maca helps women (and men!) in all stages of life. It has been used by the indigenous peoples in the Andes mountains for millennia. Their healers talk of its effects in terms of strength and stamina, fertility and energy enhancement, menopause and hormonal balance, mental and spiritual clarity…never mind the benefits of the herb as a great libido enhancer. Beyond that. So many people are so busy and so stressed, and under such demand as they care for children, spouses, parents—and Maca is amazing since it addresses this so perfectly. It’s an all purpose band-aid for your life. It’s just right.

We brought it into reality and kind of stood back, but didn’t get the response we hoped for at first…we partnered with someone to help us get our message out to the world, and she fell in love with one of our products before we even met her…our Maca.

I will never forget our first conversation when she told me that she had picked up some of our Maca samples at the Green Festival in San Francisco. She said that she had her last few samples sitting on her nightstand and that she did not want to take them because they were the last that she had—once she took them she would be out! I knew then that she was the perfect marketing guru for us. We promised to keep her stocked with Maca!

And it was her idea to make the push with this wonderful product. I find this so extraordinary, because Maca was the herb I felt should bring us to the world as well, a few years ago, in a totally unrelated context, and here is a person with marketing experience that I don’t have, agreeing with my instinct, and the instinct of our healer partners. It’s a miracle. It really strikes me. Did you ever have one of those moments, where the stars are aligned, and the timing of your day is perfect, and it all just kind of works?  I feel this energy in a whole new way now. I know what we do is right, I believe in our company, in my endeavors, in my history, and in our future, and it is so nice when the spirit gets one of those little nods from the powers that be. It helps you when you’re fighting the good fight. Like all of us.

Applied Ethnobotany and Global Health and Wellness

Indigenous peoples worldwide have long lived in harmony with nature. This integral relationship with our planet spawned deep reverence and understanding of our natural world. Traditional healers and their age-old knowledge hold some of the earth’s countless secrets for our health and wellness. These secrets, along with our rainforests and planetary ecological integrity, are disappearing.

What IS Applied Ethnobotany?

Historically, ethnobotany has been the study of the relationship between plants and people. We at Earth Healers, along with our indigenous partners, are developing a new field: that of applied ethnobotany. Deep healing traditions have long helped us maintain personal health and wellness, and they can still help today. We can learn of holistic health and wellness options, how to care for and nurture our world, and ways to tether economic benefits to our world’s rainforests and natural places through traditional healers and the healing plants they utilize. After all, there is no health without environmental health. Human wellness is inextricably linked to the environment in ways traditional cultures have understood for generations.

Why Is This Bringing Hope To A Dire Situation?

"Rainforests are being destroyed at a staggering rate. According to the National Academy of Science, at least 50 million acres a year are lost, an area the size of England, Wales and Scotland combined. All the primary rainforests in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Haiti have been destroyed already. The Ivory Coast rainforests have been almost completely logged. The Philippines lost 55% of its forest between 1960 and 1985; Thailand lost 45% of its forest between 1961 and 1985" (Rainforest Action Network).

"The biodiversity of the tropical rainforest is so immense that less than one percent of its millions of species have been studied by scientists for active constituents and their possible uses for man. When an acre of tropical rainforest is lost, the impact to the number of plant, animal and insect species lost and their possible uses is staggering. Scientific experts estimate that we are losing over 137 species of plants, animals and insects every single day because of rainforest deforestation" (Rainforest Action Network).
